Mickey Rourke admits he made “crap” films for money

February 1st, 2009 by Tallulah Smith

Mickey Rourke certainly tells it like it is.  A rarity in Hollywood.

“I had a good time when I was working with good directors. When I was working with Adrian Lyne on 9 1/2 Weeks, I was fine with that. I was fine with Francis Ford Coppola when we did Rumble Fish. It would fall apart with me if I did material for a payday. When you got bills to pay, you’ve gotta take a part that I would call a piece of crap. Then you just don’t like yourself. That was when I really started to self-destruct. Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man–that started it.”

How many other actors in Hollywood admit that they acted in films that were “a piece of crap” but did it for the money.  No, they always say the awful film is wonderful so that we go out and buy a ticket and waste our time and money.  Can you imagine a star going on Jay Leno or Dave Letterman or Oprah and rather than saying what a great experience it was working with said co stars or said director, but told the truth and said what they really thought (i.e. my costar had bad breath or his body odor makes me sick, my director was so stoned that we directed ourselves, etc).  Now, that would make for great tv rather than the same old drivel they always say.

Here are a few actors most people believe did a “piece of crap” film solely for the money:  Kate Hudson (Le Divorce, The Skeleton Key),  Eddie Murphy (Meet Dave, Norbit),  Renee Zellweger (Down With Love), Halle Berry (Gothika, Perfect Stranger). Gwyneth Paltrow (Sylvia, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Duets, The Good Night). George Clooney (Intolerable Cruelty, Welcome to Collinwood), Colin Farrell (Miami Vice, Ask the Dust),  Adam Sandler (Spanglish, Little Nicky), Sharon Stone (The Year of Getting to Know Us)  and on and on and on.
