Leonardo DiCaprio: the (money) stuff never mattered to me until I was into my thirties

September 26th, 2011 by Tallulah Smith

In an interview with GQ magazine, he said: “Throughout my career, I never knew which movies of mine made money and which didn’t. When Titanic came out, people would say, ‘Do you realize what a success this is?’ And I’d say, ‘Yeah, yeah, it’s a hit.’  The [money] stuff never mattered to me until I was into my thirties and got interested in producing, and people would show me charts explaining what finances a movie, what you’ll make from foreign, what you’ll make from domestic, what you need to make an R-rated film that’s a comedy versus a drama. But even now I say that unless you want to prove that you can carry a film with your name, continuously trying to achieve box-office success is a dead end.”

“For my generation, it’s always the ’70s. That period where you felt like the hands were being dealt back in the director’s favor. The studios realized that letting them tell their stories was something the audience had a hunger for. And of course, it all went awry. [They both laugh.] Taxi Driver to me is the ultimate independent-movie performance. Playing a character like Travis Bickle is every young actor’s wet dream.”  GQ

September 26th, 2011 by Tallulah Smith

John Gotti Sr. never danced a dance in his life,” he said, taking a jab at the Saturday Night Fever hoofer Travolta .   He also said that X-Men star Ben Foster was  “miscast” as John “Junior” Gotti. “He’s a thug, so you need someone who’s a thug . . . a guy who grew up in that life,” Kasman said of Junior, offering The Fighter star Mark Wahlberg  as a better pick for the role.   New York Post

“.

The music mogul compared the money to alimony paid out following a divorce, saying it would not be “the right thing” to cut off a life of luxury the women had become accustomed to.  The X Factor boss. 51, said: “You can’t have somebody in your life who’s become accustomed to a certain thing, and just because you don’t want to be in the relationship any more say to them, now everything is cut off. That doesn’t make sense”. “

It’s not alimony. It is, I believe, doing the right thing. And that came back to me wanting them to be happy. You just can’t do it too many times
